Born on July 1, 1923, Harold went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on June 4, 2020. Preceded in death by parents George and Jennie, younger brother Clarence, and his wife of 63 years, Arlene Mueller, he is survived by sons Gary (Betsy) and Carl Mueller, daughter Barbara (David) June, 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and several cousins. Harold was proud of his service as an Army Combat Engineer in WW2. He went ashore on D-Day +1 (a few years ago he and many other veterans received a medal of honor from the French government for their participation in the first two days of the invasion), fought in the Battle of the Bulge, on the island of Okinawa after the European war ended, and served briefly in Korea after the Pacific war ended, before returning to the United States in 1946. Harold worked for NSP (Xcel Energy) as a lineman and crew foreman until he retired. For many years after officially retiring he gave safety demonstrations for NSP/Xcel in elementary schools throughout the metro area. While serving as the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 449, Harold was awarded “The Order of the Arrow” for outstanding leadership. With his wife Arlene, he served as a volunteer in 3 Baptist churches and did volunteer construction work at a Baptist summer camp in N Minnesota. Harold and Arlene also enjoyed camping at many Minnesota state parks (and received an award for visiting every Minnesota state park) and taking their camper trailer to Washington state to see Barbara and her family. An interment ceremony will be held at a later date at Fort Snelling Military Cemetery. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
