Godwin Peris

Godwin Peris, age 76 of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at his home following an extended illness.Godwin, the son of Nicholas and Margaret (Dep-Weerasingha), was born August 17, 1939 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He was later married to Swarna Gunasekara on December 26, 1964 and recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. Godwin and Swarna are longtime owners of Hillside Learning Center in Hastings. Godwin also thoroughly enjoyed working with jewelry, which allowed him to own a jewelry store too. He was a great fan of classic cars. Godwins gift of a magnetic personality continually proved his strong, prim and proper character. His gifts of jewelry to many family and friends throughout Hastings always brought him great joy, even up to his passing.Godwin was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings, Dr. Nicholas Peris, Leonard Peris, Christopher Peris and Captain Maxwell Peris.He is survived by his wife, Swarna of Hastings; his children, Aquila (Inoka) Peris of Sri Lanka, Ruwan Peris and Naomi (Jeremy) Moore, both of Hastings; his grandchildren, Kirian Peris, Jade Adamson, Devin Markman, Shayan Peris, Evan Adamson and Dylan Markman; his siblings, Regnald Peris, Dr. Merlin Peris, Mrs. Diana Wickrameratna, Augusta Jayasekara and Titus Peris; and by many other relatives and friends.Memorial visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East Seventh St., Hastings. Private family interment will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Hastings.In lieu of flowers, Godwins family requests memorials to his family.
