George Weinhandl Sr., age 81, of Hampton, died June 1, 2010 at Cannon Falls Community Medical Center. George was born December 4, 1928 to Paul and Maria (Weinzettel) Weinhandl in Apetlon, Austria. He left his beloved homeland in 1950 and immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada where he married Ernestine Heiss on August 18, 1951, living there for ten years. In 1961, they moved to Minnesota with their three children. George had worked as a meat cutter for Twin City Meat and Westlund Provision, and was retired Local UFCW 789 in St. Paul. He loved gardening, hobby farming, his pets, visiting friends, and most of all � his family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Michael (Theresa) Weinhandl and sister Maria (Joseph) Koppi. George is survived by his wife Erna; children George Jr. (Geri) of Hampton, Margaret (Glenn) Staudt of Hampton, and David (Linda) of Cannon Falls; he was opa of nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; also survived by brothers Paul (Susie) and Leo (Katharina), all of Austria. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Stan Mader will be held 10:30am Saturday, June 5, 2010 at St. Mathias Catholic Church, Hampton. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. The visitation will be held from 4-7pm Friday at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh Street, Hastings and 1 hour prior to the Saturday service at church. Grandson pallbearers are Eric Weinhandl, Christopher Staudt, Michael Weinhandl, James Staudt, Joseph and Robert Weinhandl; honorary pallbearers are Lawrence Peine, Nick Stein, Martin Weinzettel, Harold Klosterman, Ralph Hermes, Barny Ostertag, Al Gutierrez, Jerry Rother, and Francis Linnenfelser. George was a hard working, kind, and fun loving person who will be missed by all. Ruhe in Frieden!
