George W. Bateman

age 68, of Hastings, a retired optician who formerly worked for Sears Optical and Cottage Grove Optical died Monday, October 27, 2008. George was born on May 28, 1940 to John and Lorraine (Hetherington) Bateman. He was a graduate of Hastings High School class of 1958 and a veteran of the United States Air Force. George married Susan Potter on September 28, 1968 in LaCrosse, WI. George was an avid golfer and liked to follow politics, his other hobbies included Minnesota sports teams his favorites being the Golden Gophers and the Minnesota Twins. He also enjoyed birdwatching, especially eagles. He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife; his children Michael Bateman of Farmington, Ann (John) Occhiato of Northfield and Maggie (fiance Eric Olofson) Bateman of Prior Lake; his grandchildren Corina and Alaina Occhiato; his brother Winston (Ann) Bateman of Minneapolis and his niece Julie Bateman of Seattle, WA. A memorial servicewill be held 11:30am on November 3, 2008 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home. The visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service.The intermentwill takeplace at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred.
