George L. Jacques

George L. Jacques, age 90, died at his home in Prescott, WI on December 3, 2015 surrounded by his family. As CEO, George grew Jacques Seed from a local seed corn company to a major U.S. multi-seed research, development and marketing firm. George was a former Board Member of Union Carbide. After his career at Jacques he started his own company, Georges Seeds. He continued to do corn breeding at his farm in rural Prescott until his death. George was born October 21, 1925 in Prescott to William and Elizabeth (McCormick) Jacques. He attended Lawrence University in Appleton, WI while participating in the Navy V12 Program. He took his Navy Midshipman training in Chicago and served as an Ensign Gunnery Officer on a minesweeper in the South Pacific. He also attended the University of Minnesota upon discharge from the Navy. He was a member of the Prescott American Legion and VFW. George married Helen L. Furber 1951 in Hastings. Helen died May 1986. George married Leona (Lundquist) in 1987 in Prescott. Leona died 2007. George was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Ann Filarsky, brothers William Jr. and Charles Jacques, sisters, Marie Baker and Patricia Karpen. Survivors are daughters Jean Jacques of Kasson, MN, Miki (Paul) Peine of St. Paul, Jaci (Jorv) Gavic of River Falls, Julie (Neal Wallace) Jacques of Hastings, Georgette Jacques of Maplewood and Cydney Jacques of Prescott, his 17 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a sister, Jean Jacques of Seattle, WA. A visitation will be held Wednesday, December 9 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Caturia- Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 7th Street East, Hastings, MN. Mass will be Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 11:00 am , St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prescott, WI with visitation at church beginning at10:00 am. Interment with Military Honors will bein the parish cemetery. Memorials preferred to The Prescott American Legion.
