George J. Marthaler

George Joseph Marthaler, age 58 of Ravenna Twp. died Wednesday, September 24, 2014. George was born November 8, 1955 in St. Paul to George and Rosemary (Fitzgerald) Marthaler. He was a graduate of Rosemount High School, class of 1974 and the Dakota Co. Vocational Technical School. George married JoAnn Lorentz on October 14, 1978 at St. Marys Catholic Church in New Trier, and was employed with Resource Recovery Technologies in Newport for over 26 years. He was an avid gardener and extremely handy, enjoyed building and renovating, and could fix everything. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren, and lived every day for our Lord, like it was his last. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Peine and father George H. Marthaler. George is survived by his wife JoAnn; children Jessica (Kevin) Schwartz of South St. Paul, George N. (Kelly) Marthaler of Hastings and Lucy (Peter) Simones of Vermillion; grandchildren Jeffrey and Caitlin Schwartz, Evelyn, Vivian and Gwen Marthaler, Lily, Aiden and Ethan George Simones; mother Rosemary Marthaler of Rosemount; brother Dennis (Marilyn) Marthaler of Duluth; brother-in-law Jerry Peine of Hastings; sisters Rosemary (Charles) Dougherty of Hastings, Nancy (Kevin) Dodge of Red Wing, Janet (Larry) Grosse of Hastings, Debra Marthaler of Rosemount, Pam (John) Wagner of Hampton, Mary (Roy) Schneider of Savage; brother Jim (Yvette) Marthaler of Faribault; godfather Fr. William Fitzgerald; also many other relatives and friends. The funeral Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Cole Kracke and Fr. William Fitzgerald, will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 27 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 Fifteenth Street West, Hastings. There will be a visitation AT CHURCH Friday from 4:00-8:00 pm and one hour prior to mass at church. Interment will follow in St. Agathas Catholic Cemetery, Coates. Pallbearers are Dennis and James Marthaler, Stephen, Joseph, George and Paul Lorentz. Honorary pallbearers are Marty Lorentz, Steve Fox, John Cordes, Paul Linkert, Chuck Dougherty, Larry Grosse, Jerry Peine, John Wagner, Dan Scott, David Black and Joseph Heinz, Kevin Dodge and Roy Schneider.
