Gary Mollick

September 21, 1955 — March 6, 2017

Gary Lawrence Mollick, September 21, 1955 March 6, 2017, was taken suddenly and far too soon at the age of 61. Gary was born in Hastings, MN, to Robert (Butch) and June (Brodt) Mollick. Gary spent most of his life in the Hastings area. In 1992 he married Sherre Taylor of Prairie Island, MN. Daughter Naomi June was born in 1991. Gary also helped raise his stepdaughter Stephanie and her son John Roberts II. Gary was most at home in nature. He spent a lot of time fishing on the river. In his small boat, with basic fishing gear, Gary always knew where to find the fish. He recognized individual bald eagles in the area, knew where they liked to hunt and where they liked to rest in the trees. Gary also loved spending time with his dogs, Dory and Squirt. An accomplished hunter, he started hunting deer and duck at a young age, often with his brother, Bob Mollick. Gary loved to cook and enjoy the wild game he brought home, with venison being his favorite. Every year, he gathered with friends to make deer sausage. Gary was also an avid and skillful ginseng hunter, climbing the hills in search of the medicinal herb. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Pete Taylor and his wife, Sherre. He is survived by his daughter, Naomi June Mollick of Red Wing, MN; stepdaughter, Stephanie Taylor of Prairie Island; grandsons, John Roberts II, Gauge and Garytt Mollick; brother, Bob Mollick of Hastings, MN; sister, Judy Romme (Bill) of Fort Collins, CO; mother-in-law, Carol Taylor; Garys aunt, Marg Mollick of Hastings; also survived by Lu (Sheila) Taylor, Kerre (Donnie) Grimes, Howard (Cheryl) Taylor, Kelly (Holly) Taylor, many nieces and nephews, plus a multitude of other friends and acquaintances. His kind and generous spirit will be missed by all. Soar with the eagles, Gary. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services, 201 East 7th Street in Hastings, with visitation to be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday and hour prior to the Saturday service.
