Francis "Fran" Woxland, age 97 of Hastings, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, June 20, 2017, at Augustana Health Care Center of Hastings, following an extended illness. Francis Percival, the son of Peter and Sarah (Knutson) Woxland, was born on July 17, 1919, in Rushford, Minnesota. At a young age, Frans family moved to Hastings where he later graduated with the class of 1937. Fran then enlisted in the United States Navy and served during WWII. Following his honorable discharge, Fran continued his education at various trade schools to learn more about banking. He then began his lifelong banking career, first at Hastings National, Bank of America, and later Norwest where he retired as Vice President in the late 1980s. On September 14, 1968, Fran was united in marriage to Dorothy A. Kobierowski at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Hastings. They enjoyed many years of traveling together as well as entertaining many family and friends before she preceded him in death on October 16, 2016. Fran was an avid golfer and enjoyed being active at the Hastings Country Club, even as a Past President. He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Maurice, Carroll, and Robert Woxland; and by his wife, Dorothy. Fran is survived by his sister, Doris Corfman and by many nieces and nephews who meant the world to him; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2017, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings, with Gordon Gathright officiating. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Arrangements are being completed by Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home Cremation Services of Hastings.
