Francis C. "Fritz" Marshall

Francis C. "Fritz" Marshall, age 86 of Bloomington died August 6, 2014 at Fairview Southdale Hospital. Fritz was born September 17, 1927 in Hastings to Frank and Louise (Matsch) Marshall. He was a 1945 graduate of Minneapolis Washburn High School, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, attended Cornell University in New York, the University of St. Thomas and University of MN, where he received his B.S. degree in Forestry in 1950. He received his graduate certificate in Environmental Engineering from the University of Southern California and was employed by the California Dept. of Highways for several years in the 1950s. Fritz retired from the Minnesota Dept. of Highways/MNDOT in 1993 after 33 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; son David A. Marshall and sister Elaine Marshall Smith. Fritz is survived by loving wife Beverly and her children and grandchildren; son Frank and wife Joy and her children and grandchildren; sister Marlene Bicay of Stacy, MN; also nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Cole Kracke will be held 10:30 AM Monday, August 11 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 Fifteenth St. West, Hastings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Vermillion. Pallbearers are John and Mike Schaal; John, Mike, Mark and Peter Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
