Fidelis M. Lindner

Fidelis Mary Lindner, a loving mother and 'Nanny,' of Hastings, passed away unexpectedly at age 70 in Kumamoto, Japan on December 28, 2011. She was born April 8, 1941 in Parker Twp, Stephen, MN to Edward and Eleanor Smith. She married Robert Lindner on July 6, 1968 at the Sacred Heart Church in Oakwood, ND.Fidelis was known and respected for her commitment and dedication to education, as evidenced by the 39 years she spent teaching in ISD 200, 16 of which were in the same fifth-grade classroom at Tilden Elementary School. When she wasn't spending time with friends and family, she was usually volunteering, traveling, organizing events or extending hospitality. After visiting East Africa in 1993, she wrote, 'Seeing the happiness, beauty and richness of a people who have no material wealth - all these things impacted the rest of my life.' Fidelis was a dedicated parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and was a passionate leader in bringing hope and sustainable change to the people of Kitui, Kenya.She is preceded in death by her parents. Fidelis is survived by her husband, Robert of Hastings; daughter, Jacqueline (Patrick) Bencke of Kumamoto, Japan; daughter, Sharon (William) Bogle of Dayton, MN; son, Daniel (Sarah) Lindner of Hastings; grandchildren, Emilie and Hannah Bencke; Katelyn, Amanda and Brandon Bogle; and Anna, Ryan and Mia Lindner; brothers: James (Ruth) Smith, Jerome Smith and Lee Ray (Susan) Smith; and many other relatives and friends.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (1/14) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Friday (1/13) from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at Wise Family Funeral Home, 400 Spring St., Hastings and 1 hour prior to mass on Saturday. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Fidelis Lindner Memorial Fund, C/O Vermillion State Bank, 975 Lyn Way, Hastings, MN 55033.
