Eugene "Geno" Halberg

Eugene E. "Geno" Halberg Jr., age 66, of Hastings, died Thursday, July 5, 2018, at Regina Medical Center after a brief illness. Eugene E. was born August 11, 1951 in Hastings to Eugene E. Sr. and Vyollet A. (Jacobson) Halberg. He attended Hastings Schools with the class of 1969. He also attended Dakota County Technical College for a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. He was employed for several years at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings, retiring in 2008. Geno was a talented artist in many mediums, was an active community and church volunteer, including volunteering for local hospice groups, Sons of the American Legion, and Hastings School Alumni Association. Geno married Nancy Tutewohl, on October 2, 1971 in Vermillion, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Mike, and his father and mother-in-law Tom Dorothy Tutewohl. Geno is survived by his wife Nancy, 2 children Jennifer (Chris) Patton and Robert (Shaula) Halberg; 4 grandchildren Evan, Nate, Julia Maddy Vy; and by aunt uncles Shirley Silling, Charles Halberg and Roland Halberg, as well as other relatives and many friends. Funeral Services for Geno Halberg will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral home Crematory, 201 7th St. E., Hastings. Gordon Gathright will officiate. A visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the funeral. Interment will be at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Vermillion. The family requests Memorials to the Sister Tabitha Memory Care Center at Regina Medical Center in Hastings.The arrangements are being completed by the Caturia, Smidt Starkson Funeral Home Crematory of Hastings.
