Elizabeth �Bette� L. King, age 80, of Hastings passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at her home.Bette was born March 4, 1933 in Hastings to Frank and Mary Katherine (Tix) Lucking. She married Melvin King on October 28, 1950 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. Melvin passed away on November 22, 1994. She was a former Title One Aide for 20 years in Hastings, serving both public and private schools.Bette loved being with her family, gardening, music, late night talk shows, talent competitions and saying her prayers in the sun. She had a small notebook that she carried with her and would write down the names of people she had heard were facing challenges, so she could pray for them. Bette will be greatly missed but remembered fondly.She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin, daughter Laurislee, parents Frank and Mary Katherine Lucking, and three siblings: Lorraine Radke, Laverne Lucking and Raymond Lucking. She is survived by her children Roxanne (Allen) Lewerer of New Richmond, WI, Vicki (Larry) Cavalier of Stillwater, Jaci (Rick) Cobian of Hastings, Jim King of Hastings, Mike (Char) King of Hastings, Kellie (Paul Johnson) King of Hastings; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; her brother Jack (Judy) Lucking of Mora, MN, sister-in-law �Tuts� Lucking of Vermillion, MN; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Funeral Mass officiated by Father James Perkl will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 Fifteenth Street West, Hastings. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 pm at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th St., Hastings, with an hour of visitation prior to the mass at church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bette�s grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
