Elaine L. (Bignell) Swank

October 6, 1944 — February 12, 2021

Elaine L. Swank, age 76 of Hastings, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday morning, February 12, 2021, at United Hospital in St. Paul. Elaine Lucille, the daughter of Lyle and Lucille (Kralewski) Bignell, was born on October 6, 1944, in Plum City, Wisconsin. Following her graduation from Hastings High School, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Swank on October 26, 1963, and he later preceded her in death on May 26, 2004. Elaine was a dedicated caregiver, and would help anyone in need. She was a fantastic gardener and a talented seamstress. Elaine also enjoyed cooking and baking, and would always make sure she had something ready just in case someone stopped by. She cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren too. Elaine was a very stubborn lady and was always set in her own ways, but was the first to check in if something was wrong. There wasn't a Holiday that went by where Elaine didn't make sure that it was the best one possible for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ken; daughter, Katherine in infancy; siblings, Glen and Donald; great granddaughter, Kylee Rose; and by her sons-in-law, Leonard Eckert and Richard McPherson. Elaine is survived by her daughters, Dawn McPherson, Rae (Brian) Johnson, and Trina (EJ) Frank; grandchildren, Cassandra (Todd) Knuth, Pamela (Nelson) Kargbo, Victoria Eckert, Rebecca (Nicholas) Strydom, McKenna Johnson, Jade Johnson, Lexi Frank, and Tanner Frank; four great grandchildren; ten siblings; sister-in-law, Sandy (Dean) Ahlman; special friend and former neighbor, Darlene; and by many other relatives and friends. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a Celebration of Elaine's Life will be held at a later date. We invite you to continue checking the funeral home's website for updated information. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
