Dorothy Theresa Tutewohl

Dorothy T. Tutewohl, age 90 of Hastings died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Augustana Health Care Center. Dorothy was born June 24, 1923 in St. Paul to Mark and Martha (Schneider) Schmitz. She was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School in St. Paul andmarried Thomas F. Tutewohl on April 3, 1948 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in St. Paul. During their married life, they had a farm south of Vermillion, MN. Dorothy volunteered at several places during her life including church, Regina Hospital, thelibrary, and Hastings Senior Center. She was the first woman to serve on St. John the Baptist Church Council. Dorothy loved to read all types of books and could always be found reading. In later years she was a fan of word search books, explaining that it kept her mind active. Her family loved receiving the gifts of afghans she had made. She will be lovingly remembered for her generosity of time and talents, and especially her sense of fun and her constant love. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas on October 20, 1987; 2 brothers Mark and Len Schmitz; 3 brothers-in-law; 6 sisters-in-law and one niece. Dorothy is survived by her daughter Nancy (Geno) Halberg of Hastings; grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Patton and Rob (Shaula) Halberg; great grandchildren Evan, Nate, Julia and Maddy; 2 brothers-in-law; 2 sisters-in-law; also many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. The memorial Mass, officiated by Fr. Stan Mader will be held 11 AM Monday, March 24 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Vermillion. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Memorials are preferred to Hastings Family Service, 301 Second St. East, Hastings.
