Donna Margaret Sorenson, age 95, of Hastings, passed away at United Hospital in St. Paul on March 20, 2017. She was born in Morning Sun, IA on July 23, 1921 to Lewis and Nona (Owens) Stodgell. The most important part of her life was her faith in Jesus. She endeavored to always give God the glory and was thankful for all the blessings she had. She was an upbeat, positive woman who chose to surround herself with humor and sharing laughter with all those around her. In her eyes, her glass was not only half full – it was overflowing. Donna was very active at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. She was a longtime secretary in the church office and was involved in several activities over the years including singing in the choir and playing handbells. She also enjoyed participating in many things offered at the Hastings Senior Center where she played BINGO and dominos. She bowled for many years with her husband and embraced his Norwegian heritage even beyond his death taking pride in involvement in the Sons of Norway and wearing her Bunad in local parades. She was an avid reader and a passionate, non-judgemental woman of prayer. Music was another passion of Donna’s. She enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren perform in music and theater over the years, supporting the school and community whenever possible, which included one of her recent favorite annual events with the Hastings Show Choirs. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Selmer “Sam” Sorenson; son in law, Andrew Pollard; grandson, Tim Sorenson; sisters, Joanne Davey and Maxine Oetken. Donna is survived by her children, David (Jan) Sorenson, Keith (Rosie) Sorenson, Peter (Pam) Sorenson, Joyce (Sam) Sorenson, Robert (Rusty) Sorenson, Richard Sorenson, Nona (Greg) Miland, Stan Sorenson, and Evonne Pollard; 25 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and at least one on the way; many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held on Saturday (3/25) at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 W. 9th St., Hastings. A visitation will be held on Friday (3/24) from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at CHURCH and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at church.
