Donna Mae Winter (Schoonover) Donna was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 15, 1938, the daughter of Margaret Julia Matykiewicz and Leslie James Schoonover. She graduated from Home of the Good Shepherd High School in St. Paul. Following high school she worked for the State of Minnesota and Swift and Company. While working at Swift and Company, she met her future husband, Roman P. Winter. They were married at St. John Vianney Church in South St. Paul on September 22, 1962. Donna worked at US Foods for over 26 years and retired in 2000. Donna loved baking and was known for her banana bread. She was also an excellent cook and everyone loved her spaghetti and meatballs. Donna enjoyed knitting in her spare time and keeping her home extremely tidy. Donna was a strong minded woman and did not have a filter when offering her opinion. She always put others before herself as she was a caring woman. Donna passed away at United Hospital on November 1, 2019 with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Roman P. Winter; her brother Bobby Schoonover; her mother, Margaret Rothstein; and her dogs, Wilma and Winnie. She will be dearly missed by her children, Mark (Betsy) Winter of Hastings, Mary (Sam) Burr of Hastings, and Michael (Kim) Winter of River Falls, WI; her grandchildren, Jason (Mandy) Burr of Arizona, Dale Burr of Hastings, Mitchell Winter of Hastings, Catherine Winter of Hastings, Jeff Winter of Hastings, Jennifer Burr of Hastings, Jodi Burr of Hastings, Jamie Burr of Hastings, Jordan Winter of River Falls, and Rachel Winter of River Falls; 13 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Judy Gramley of Lakeville, Barbara Crosby of Arizona, Gary (Grace) Schoonover of Lake Elmo, Sandie (Ron) Christensen of Lakeville, and Roger (Jodi) Rothstein of Inver Grove Heights; and many other family and friends. The Mass of Christian Burial for Donna will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 15th Street West, Hastings. The family invites friends to join them for a visitation from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Committal prayers to immediately follow the Mass at the church cemetery with a reception after the interment in Mother Seton Hall.
