Derek Bane, age 28 of Eagan, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday afternoon, August 11, 2021. Derek Michael, the son of Michael and Juliann (Okoren) Bane, was born on May 6, 1993, in Hastings. Growing up, Derek enjoyed participating in sports, especially football where he was the Captain of the Hastings Raiders. Following his graduation with the class of 2011, Derek excelled his education at MSU - Mankato where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing in 2014. Derek loved spending time outdoors, being at the hunting shack or on the lake, having bonfires, and working out. He cherished Christmas and decorating cookies with his family. Derek's outgoing personality endeared him to all. His tender heart always led him to put others before himself. Derek loved every minute of being the "favorite" cousin in the family and was always sure to light up the room wherever he went. He was a talented landscaper and fixer-upper, and always enjoyed working on house projects. On July 12, 2020, Derek was united in marriage to Marqisha Arquette Lewis Mosey. They enjoyed going to many adventure and water parks in their short time together. Derek also enjoyed singing and dancing. He was preceded in death by his dad, Michael; paternal grandparents, Peyton and Ellen Bane; and by his maternal grandpa, Stanley Okoren. Derek is survived by his wife, Marqisha; mom, Julie Bane; siblings, Ryan and Sarah; maternal grandma, MaryAnn Okoren; three dogs, Olive, Nugget, and Everest; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Derek's Life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel in Hastings. Private family memorial services will be held. In lieu of flowers, Derek's family requests memorials be given in his memory. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
