David A. "Doosey" Vonarx

David Anthony "Doosey" VonArx, loving husband, father, grandpa and brother passed away peacefully on May 6, 2020 surrounded by his family. David was born September 23rd 1943 in Caledonia MN to Evelyn and Alfred VonArx. He graduated from Loretto High School in 1961. He was drafted into the Army at the age of 23 and served his country proudly for two years. David began driving truck at the age of 17. He began his driving career with Twin City Freight, then with LaSalle Cartage, and finally at Lewis Truck Lines were he retired from in 2002 after 30 years. Retirement didn’t sit well with Dave, he decided to go back trucking with Meyer Farms every fall for the next 12 years, and then went to work for Cartensen & Sons for the next 7 years. In 2019, David finally retired, as he famously said to family, “I have more miles going backwards then you’ll ever have going forward.” David enjoyed many hobbies, he was a devoted Harley rider for 53 years, a pilot for 30 years, an avid golfer and hunter. He also enjoyed being a snow-bird and going to McAllen Texas the last 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife Cheryl, children Todd & Julie, Becky (Jay) & Tim (Bobbie) grandchildren, Jacob, Ben, Blake, Garrett, Anthony, Damien, Chase, Bjorn & Svea. Sister Carolyn (Ken), brothers Jeff (Judy), Dennis (friend, Jennifer) many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2020, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Hastings, with Father David Hennen officiating. Immediately following the Mass, Military Honors will be provided by the Lyle Russell Post 1210 of Hastings. Private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society in memory of Doosey.
