Cyril "Cy" (Sneaky Pete) Schmitz, age 77 of Rosemount, died suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday morning, August 18, 2021, in Waseca. Cyril Mark, the son of Charles and Fidelis (Tieben) Schmitz, was born on July 1, 1944, on the family farm in Credit River Township, Scott County, Minnesota. Cy and Carol were married on May 14, 1976, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion and recently celebrated forty-five years of happiness together. Cy had a passion for racing and tractor pulling, especially when he was with family. He also raced stock cars for many years, and in 1986, started Sneaky Pete's Pullers. He and Carol continued to run the pullers until world events (the pandemic) made it too difficult for them. Cy was a self-employed truck driver for most of his life, and was doing that when he passed away. Cy always had a project going on and was always sure to have something up his sleeve. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and held his close family members near and dear. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, LuAnne Tellers, Benoite Stepka, and Julaine Schoer; and by his son, Charles M. Schmitz. Cy is survived by his wife, Carol; sister, Charlene Scheffler; a daughter and son; one granddaughter, three grandsons, and two great grandsons; many sisters-in-laws and brothers-in-law; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Vermillion, with Father Michael Tix officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, August 30, 2021, at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings, and for one hour prior to Mass at church on Tuesday. Arrangements are being completed by Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel of Hastings.
