Clarence H "Clem" Hicks Jr.

Clarence H. "Clem" Hicks, Jr. age 80, of Cottage Grove, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Hastings. Clarence Henry Hicks Jr. was born July 13, 1935 to Clarence and Neoma (Estes) Hicks in Hastings . He attended Hastings Schools and entered the United States Navy June 29, 1954 . He married Marlene Olstad on December 16, 1972 in Cottage Grove, MN . Clem was retired from Con-Agra Mill in Hastings, where he worked as a millwright for over 44 years. He was a member of the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752. Clem is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Willie, Chuck, Jim and Marv; sisters Florence Rischette, Mona Ginn, Judy Boecker and 2 sisters in infancy. He is survived by his wife Marlene, children Gene Hicks of Hastings, Cheryl Ziemer of Freeport, MN, Rodney Cassedy of Rosemount and Julie (Marvin) Halfen of Hastings. 6 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter; brothers Dick (Jan) of Holdenville, OK, David (Bev) of Cottage Grove, Jerry (Penny) of Mount Zion, IL and a sister Barb Bowers of Garland, TX. A Memorial Service officiated by Gordon Gathright will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, July 15, 2016 at St. Philips Lutheran Church, 1401 15th Street West, Hastings, MN . There will be a Memorial Gathering at the church 1 hour prior to the funeral. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren Samantha, William and Tiffany Ziemer, Theo Hicks, Anthony and Amanda Halfen. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Hastings.
