Charles F. Gegen

Charles F. Gegen (a.k.a. Charlie, Step Daddy, Poppi, “The Legend”), age 85. Born on Christmas, 1933. Passed away on the 4th of July, 2019 with his loving wife, Susan, by his side. Charlie was bigger than life. He went to Hastings High School, Winona State University, and St. Paul College of Law (William Mitchell). He practiced law, primarily in Hastings, until he was elected Judge. He stayed in that position for over twenty years until joining his wife, Susan, in her law practice. He spent his career making people laugh, teaching young lawyers, and advising new elected judges. His antics both in and out of the courtroom were loved by all who knew him and were retold often. The world is a much better place because he was in it. Charlie is survived by his wife: Susan (Peterson, Bates), seven children; Chuck Gegen, Patty Gegen, Barb (James) Rohde, Theresa Gegen (Doug Dow), Joe Gegen, Jessica (Kevin) Fischer, Josh (Indi) Bates, grandchildren; Jake and Caleb Rohde, Timmy Bernard, Charlie and Izzy Fischer, LilyAnn and Baby Boy Bates, sister; Kathleen (Michael) Connelly, sisters-in-law Janean and Carol Gegen plus lots of nieces and nephews. Charlie is preceded in death by his parents Francis and Florence (Ryan) Gegen, siblings Tom and Mike Gegen, Mary Erickson and first wife Margaret (Gegen) Thiel. Please join us in celebrating Charlie on Monday July 22nd, 2019 at Saint Edwards Catholic Church, 9401 Nesbitt Ave., Bloomington, MN 55437. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am with visitation one hour prior to Mass and a luncheon following Mass. Special gratitude to Jessica, Josh, Theresa and Dori.
