Celestine "Al" A. Schumacher

Celestine Albert "Al" Schumacher, age 89 of Hastings, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Augustana Care of Hastings. Celestine "Al" was born September 7, 1927 in Ipswich, South Dakota to John and Theresa (Biegler) Schumacher. Following his graduation from St. Johns Academy in Jamestown, ND, he served in the Armed Forces during the Korean War. He attended Dunwoody Institute to become an instrument technician. Al married Eunice Heffernan on June 6, 1956 at Big Stone, SD. He was employed at the Hanford Nuclear Facility in Richland, WA from 19551971, then moving to MN, was employed at Prairie Island NSP/Xcel Nuclear Plant prior to his retirement. Al enjoyed his family, fishing and yard work and was a willing volunteer worker. He was a former member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Knights of Columbus and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eunice and his six brothers and seven sisters. Al is survived by his son, Steven and partner Cindy Reeves of Kihei, Hawaii; his daughter, Linda Schumacher of St. Paul; two granddaughters, Maya and Anya Schumacher; two grandsons, Blazek (Marcela) Schumacher and their daughter Kristine, and Jesse Schumacher and his two daughters, Evelyn and Arianna. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016, at Regina Chapel, 1175 Nininger Road in Hastings, with visitation for 1/2 hour prior to the service. Hastings VFW Lyle Russell Post #1210 will provide Military Honors at the close of the service. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery will be held at a later date.
