Roy 'Butch' Jensen, age 50, of Hastings, passed away suddenly January 17, 2010. He was born August 11, 1959 to Alton and Christel (Sortich) Jensen in Berlin Germany.Butch was an amazingly talented musician, songwriter, and artist. He started playing the guitar and writing songs when he was 10 years old. At age 17, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as an MP for 3 years at Pearl Harbor. After his Honorable Discharge, he pursued his dream as a professional musician, playing bass with several bands, writing songs and operating a recording studio. He released an album of original work in 1985 through Capitol Records. At age 30 he studied electronics at St. Paul College and started a career in IT/Telecommunications. Working for several corporations over the following 16 years, he enjoyed a successful career specializing in Trading Services Recovery for 3 international business continuity companies: Exchange Resources, Comdisco, and SunGard. This gave him the opportunity to experience world travel which he, his wife, and daughters enjoyed together. Due to his love of building and flying large scale radio controlled airplanes, he and his wife started a business in 1997 providing aluminum coverings for scale model builders. Over the past couple of years, he had developed a recording studio and had just begun a multi-media arts business offering custom graphite portraits and drawings through 2 stores in downtown Hastings. He also enjoyed collecting anything related to The Beatles, Star Trek, and The Lord of the Rings. Butch had many experiences and stories to share. He is loved by many and will be missed. Butch is preceded in death by his father, Alton. He is survived by wife, Jeri; daughters, Sara Kalfsbeek; Renate Jensen; Erika Jensen; mother, Christel Jensen; brothers, Randy (Felecia) Jensen; Robin (Shelley) Jensen; Alan (Marie) Jensen; grandchildren, Carashae; Kai & Cayman. A Funeral Service was held Fri. (1/22) 11:00am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7600 Cahill Ave., Inver Grove Heights, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment, Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the family.
