Bernice M. Schluessler

Bernice “Bernie” M Schluessler, 75, of Hastings, MN passed away January 3, 2021 peacefully at home surrounded by family after a short courageous battle with cancer. Bernice was born March 30, 1945 to Evelyn and August Schluessler in Hastings, MN. She met her lifelong partner, Don “Feets” Sherry Sr. in the 70s. Bernice was a selfless, caring person who over the years cared for/babysat many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. One of the things that brought her the most joy was doing things for others. Bernice spent many of her younger years working as a waitress at the Blue Lantern and other various bars/restaurants. She also owned it with Don for a time period. Bernice then worked at Treasure Island as a janitor for many years and later worked at Regina in Hastings as a housekeeper/Janitor and that is where she eventually retired from in the early 2000s. Bernice was also an avid pool player, she and Don played in various leagues throughout her younger years. Bowling was also a pastime they shared together. Bernice was survived by her sons, Randy (Barb) Schluessler and Michael Schluessler; Don’s children, Don (Peggy) Sherry Jr, Tim Sherry, Guy “Biggy” Sherry, Gayla Morrison; and also her granddaughter, Rebekka Sherry (Craig Dohmen) whom she raised as her own; 5 Brothers; 6 sisters; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; her life long partner, Donald “Feets” Sherry Sr; her brother, Bob; and her grandson, Casey. A celebration of Bernice’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Starkson Family Life Celebration Chapel, 3075 Vermillion St., Hastings. A gathering will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
