Alvin K. Wenzel

Alvin K. Wenzel, age 90, of Hastings died August 14, 2011 at the Regina Medical Center in Hastings. Alvin was born February 2, 1921 in rural Hardwick, MN to Karl and Freida (Ahrendt) Wenzel. He married Lois Kuechenmeister on March 1, 1945 at St. John�s Lutheran parsonage in Luverne, MN. He had worked in the agricultural field prior to his employment with Hastings Public Schools as a custodian. Alvin was a member and royalty of Polk of A (Polka Lovers of America). He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, socializing, and playing with his grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Carol; grandchild Michael; brothers Raymond and Lester; and sister Arlene. Alvin is survived by his loving wife Lois; son Loren (Nylah) Wenzel of West Virginia; daughter JoAnn (Rev. David) Meyers of New York; grandchildren Lisa (Jeff) Szumilas, Joel Meyers, Rebecca (Jeremy) Oreskovich, Rachel Meyers, Adam Krugerud, Karl and Sara Wenzel; great-grandsons Timothy and Lucas Oreskovich; brothers Arnold �Bud�(Jessie) Wenzel and Russell (Doris) Wenzel; also many other relatives. The Funeral Service, officiated by Rev. Doug Duin will be held at 11AM Friday, August 19, 2011 at Our Saviour�s Ev. Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth Street, Hastings. Visitation will be held from 4-8PM Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. Seventh St., Hastings, and also one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be held at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne, MN at 1:00pm Saturday, August 20, 2011.
