Adelaide �Addie� Girgen, passed away on September 1, 2010 at Regina Nursing Home, which was her home for the past 6 � years. Adelaide was born January 27, 1924 in St. Paul to Engelbert and Louise (Olbrich) Gerstner. Growing up in St. Paul she attended St. Francis Elementary and Monroe High School. For twelve years she took violin lessons and played at St. Francis Catholic Church during Christmas Midnight Mass. After high school graduation she worked at Waldorf Paper Products Company. She married Francis Girgen (of Coates) on October 13, 1951 at Sacred Heart Church in St. Paul, and they lived in Hastings. She worked Smeads, St. Boniface Catholic School, and Judge Appliance as a bookkeeper. Adelaide is survived by her children Stephen Girgen of Tyler, MN, and Peggy (Girgen) Katz of Hastings; grandchildren David (fiancee Kristel Walters) Girgen of Rochester, Sarah Girgen of Davison, MI, and Tanya (Jon) Peterson of Hastings; great-grandson Thomas Peterson of Hastings. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister RoseMarie Kappel. The Funeral Mass, officiated by Rev. Allan Paul Eilen, will be held at 10AM Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2035 W. 15th St., Hastings, followed by interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4-7PM Monday, September 6, 2010 at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th St., Hastings, and one hour prior to the service. The pallbearers are Tom Sherwood, Marcy Sherwood, Shawn Girgen, Jim Girgen, Eve Gavel, and George Ondimu.
